MPORT Just Says “No” To Adware

August 31st, 2005 by Wayne Porter

The NewMedia Report reports that AZoogleAds new network, MPORT, are taking a no-adware stance. Seems like many emerging networks are taking up the clarion call.

August 30, 2005 /New Media Report/–Having just revealed its new revenue-sharing network, MPORT, AzoogleAds is already laying down the law for potential adware entrants. AzoogleAds tells NewMedia Report that they will not be allowing adware affiliates into their new program, as a response to the widespread concern about adware programs stealing affiliate commissions.

Perhaps marketers are finally waking up and realizing that crapping in the waters of the Internet gives everyone dysentery. It turns consumers off to the Internet in the long run because they can’t shop or perform commerce when their PC’s are held hostage by a barrage of competing adware applications.

Hi, Wayne. If they’re so serious about ridding their network of adware why do their published (as reported by myself yesterday here http://www.revenews.com/jeffmolander/archives/000922.html merchant terms & conditions (now taken off the Web site I notice) wash their hands of network quality issues… placing it all on the advertiser to police?

Azoogle is certainly far from free of adware. I have literally scores of examples on file.

Will MPORT fare better? I don’t know. But now that they’ve promised no adware at all, I suspect researchers will be particularly quick to publicly report adware targeting MPORT. I know I will.

Still, it’s a far better policy — for merchants and for consumers — than what the traditional affiliate networks have been offering.

Ben and Jeff,

I am must erecting the cross. If they get into the adware bed, I will refer back to this post with nails.

Ben I agree AZoogle is far from adware free and not a network I would work with, but this is MPORT so I am willing to wait and see…nails in hand if need be.

I note that the ShareASale network has a no-adware policy and Kolimbo the same. Although those using Kowabunga as a one off solution can do as they please.

Wayne

Yes, Wayne, (re: SAS and Kowa) and their contracts with merchants/advertisers reflect same. That’s my point.

Oops - I had a long post here and the site auto-refreshed twice and lost it both times… Is that a new feature of the site? :) I will summarize. :)
My post essentially stated that Yes, ShareASale is adware free and has always been as such… What that means to me is that we do not allow any affiliate to utilize software downloads, including adware, to be a part of our network. Our team reviews each and every application into the network - and that is how we maintain our specific policy.

Jeff - I didn’t get a chance to read your article because the link above was broken for me… but I would think it would be interesting to see the affiliate/publisher contracts on this, and what is allowed/etc… can you send me an updated link on that article as well?
