In my last entry I detailed the disruptive tactics of the SLLA.
We have heard alot about brands making blunders in Second Life. I am not surprised. The culture is extremely detailed and complex…but what happens when avatars demand rights? What happens when avatars want a piece of the corporate pie they helped build? Below watch as the Second Life Liberation Army Attacks Reebok by disrupting their store…the implications of this digital grid grow more complex by the day. This group is getting big press- even the New York Times.
In an interesting twist I received a ping back from the group so I may have more information in the future…
However, commerce on The Grid remains unrestrained as we see from CNN Money and also note Chung’s press release.
Anshe Chung becomes first virtual millionaire. This comes as no surprise since land is still in high demand in Second Life which is experiencing a population explosion and Second Life isn’t the only virtual landscape. (My island orders are still way over their alloted delivery times.) A year ago SL membership stood at 70,000 members. Today there are 1.6 million participants…That is just in Second Life.
I have already seen a number of arguments against her success- the fact that the currency is not backed by anything “real” (as if real life currency is), that agreements mean she could have her empire yanked for any reason (true) , and that all this so-called real estate is “virtual”.
What I found the most ironic during some of my discussions is that people scoff at her “virtual empire” are the same ones who understood the the concept of “virtual real estate” like a website with a domain name attached about 15 years ago.
What is real and what has value is really a function of what you and I agree upon at one particular moment in time and space.

Am I the only one having no idea what you’re talking about
“Below watch as the Second Life Liberation Army Attacks Reebok by disrupting their store…the implications of this digital grid grow more complex by the day”
What is that?
Sorry Jonathon,
I was referencing the previous day post about the SLLA…the hyperlink was included- you can follow that for more information.

I didn’t understand the first one either, thought it was some video game, but I Googled:
http://secondlife.com/
“Second Life is a 3-D virtual world entirely built and owned by its residents. Since opening to the public in 2003, it has grown explosively and today is inhabited by a total of 1,703,503 people from around the globe.”
I guess I’m glad Anshe is having a successful life in the virtual world. And if my virtual equivalent is out there in that world, go find Anshe, she’s the one.
Does Second Life Matter to Affiliate Marketers?
I’ve been hearing and reading about Second Life from some of the big minds in the business I respect, like Jeff Doak, Sam Harrelson and Wayne Porter. But is it something affiliate marketers should be getting in to (if they’re not already)?
