I guess that it’s fitting that I write my first Revenews blog about CJU 2005. I had a great time, and just landed yesterday from the trip back. It’s incredible how Commission Junction has built up such a loyal following of both merchants and affiliates. What was even more incredible was the amount of “Super Affiliates” in the CJ Performer program (approximately 70, of which all of them make way above $10,000 per month to qualify).
It was great to meet with other Revenews bloggers like Beth Kirsch, Adam Viener & David Lewis, amongst others – and I guess, being based in Cape Town for most of the year, (yeah, I know – tough life), it’s really good to sit down over a beer and discuss the bigger picture on online marketing.
Here are just five ideas that I have about CJ (or any affiliate network, for that matter) and how they can add value to affiliates and merchants:
1. Link up a credit card to the CJ Account Balances. This way, instead of paying affiliates by wire or check, they have instant access to their balance whenever it has cleared.
2. Provide a merchant payment gateway to merchants – which will then allow some affiliates to co-brand websites, in which CJ collects the cash, and the merchant can still fulfill – and the website publishers still own the customer – instead of linking out to the merchant.
3. Provide a loyalty program to publishers (some type of points system) which can be redeemed for holidays, gifts etc.
4. Setup an online Expo – like eComXpo – Maybe a CJU Online Expo – that would help tremendously
5. Extend the merchant cookie period to 365 days. CJ cookies expire after 120 days – a longer cookie may help on some large campaigns where unlimited commissions are paid. If no one has overwritten the cookie, then some merchants would pay on it. I do see that some networks do offer the 365 day cookie option.
This month and a half upgrade cut a little into my loyalty.
Welcome Vinny!
Nice to see you here!

Vinny,
Interesting ideas for CJ. If they hooked up a credit card wouldn’t I earn negative airline miles!

For those that weren’t at CJ, Vinny arrived with an entourage of folks sporting incuBeta cards, complete with the cool South African accent. Vinnie..don’t forget to have Andrew give us look!
