Seasons greetings. For those who have not yet purchased a gift for everyone on your list, feel free to print out this blog post, wrap it up and lay it beneath the tree. They’ll love. And Yule love it too. Ha. Ha.
I’d like to take this moment to wish a very-Merry Christmas to Lisa Picarelli from Revenues Magazine.
And now onto business. Overstock.com, an online retailer that sells many things over the web, edured a pirate attack this Holiday season and which is in good shape for a buy-out, has now ventured into a new business. Their latest venture is vehicular. That is correct. Overstock.com will now selling cars on their site.
This is brand new. Brand spanking new. This latest development is so fresh that it still has that has that new car smell. (Insert chuckle here.) The site is still in Beta mode. Letter from CEO here. Also, nobody hasn’t written anything about it as far as I can tell. So, consider this a good “Shmoop”. (shmuly + scoop)
As a seasoned journalist who prefers his salads unseasoned, I conducted an email interview with Ben Wilkinson, marketing manager for OSTK cars.
Questions in bold. Answers in italics.
1) Will OSTK cars be integrated with the affiliate program? (if affiliates generate a car sale through their link….)
There will be an affiliate program for cars. The exact details of how affiliates will be paid is still up in the air right now, but we are hoping to have an idea of what the payout portion will be for this by time Affiliate Summit rolls around.
2) Will overstock coupons work on O-cars?
No.
3) Are you competing with ebay cars?
The goal of Overstock.com Cars is to bring customers the best deals on motor vehicles from dealers across the United States. The business model is different from eBay in that Overstock will simply be bringing the two parties together. Whether the transactions are actually consummated is between the Buyer and Dealer.
4) Will there be $1 shipping (common OSTK promotion) on cars?
Consumers will be able to work with 3rd party shippers to have their vehicle shipped to them if they so desire. Overstock will not be facilitating shipping in this process.
5) Can I have a free car for christmas; courtesy of Overstock?
No- but you can borrow my car.
6) On the ostk homepage, there is a “coming soon” tab…leading back to the homepage. (?) Is that for the cars? What else is it for?
The cars tab will be launching soon. We also have a Social Media portion of the site that is going up.
7) What type of car do you drive?
I’ll give you a hint, it’s German and it consists of three letters.
Will you buy your next car from ostk?
Yes
9) When will ostk begin selling airplanes?
Airplanes are not currently in the scope of the business model for Overstock.com.
Entertaining post, I would have accepted it as a gift!
