The following blog post is a service announcement for affiliates of The Gap Inc. (Public, NYSE:GPS) Because this is what I am here for; to provide you with service announcements!
Here’s the deal; two-weeks ago, Gap launched their online shoe site, piperlime.com. NY Times article. (Pointless YouTube review.)
The online shoe industry is hot right now. Very hot. So hot that Al Gore believes that the hotness of online shoes is directly related to global warming.
Like zappos.com, piperlime is selling shoes. PLUS, they are offering free shipping + free returns.
Anyways, Gap Inc. is promoting the new online brand via their more established online properties; gap.com, oldnavy.com & bananarepublic.com. (screen shot)
The problem is that piperlime does not yet have an affiliate program. And so, when affiliates are sending traffic to gap sites, if the customer clicks on the piperlime banner and purchases a pair of shoes, the affiliate will NOT be credited with the sale.
Furthermore, if you happen to be a loyalty affiliate, your shoppers will not be eligible for a kickback on sales generated on piperlime.com.
My guess is that Gap IS working on an affiliate program for piperlime. However, as of now, there aint nothing yet…
I am an affiliate of Gap and Old Navy through Commission Junction. I contacted Commission Junction the day Piperlime launched, and they told me Piperlime is in the CJ system, but is listed as not accepting affiliate partners. They could possibly be measuring the traffic they get through their established sites before they start accepting affiliates. In the mean time, I am encouraging my readers to 110% price match Piperlime through Zappos…
