Evolution of an Industry: Affiliate Summit Sunday

February 25th, 2008 by Sam Harrelson

In the past, I’ve thought of Affiliate Summit as being an event primarily focused on Monday and Tuesday of the week. However, this year’s event at the Rio Hotel in Las Vegas is supporting my new theory that the Affiliate Summit truly begins on the Friday before the show and extends to the Wednesday after the show.

With the arrival of many Affiliate Summit regulars on Friday, the buy.at party on Saturday night and now the Meet Market / cocktail hour / ShareASale party on Sunday night, it certainly seems like the Affiliate Summit has evolved from a two day show to a full on five day event.

The Meet Market today was incredible. Close to 100 tables, a huge capacity-filled room and lots of buzz everywhere made the event seem as if it were worth the trip out to Vegas itself. I was completely overwhelmed having been to most of the Affiliate Summits over the years and seeing how much the Meet Market event has changed. It was a full on “mini conference” in itself.

Combine that with the beyond excellent ShareASale event tonight at the Palms and the show is already a winner. Even my non-industry wife was impressed by the goings on today.

Things felt professional, engaging and exciting today. There was definitely fun to be had, but there were also many new faces and many deals being done.

Word is that keynote Jason Calacanis finally arrived in Las Vegas tonight and is promising a barn-burning presentation. I’ll be live blogging from Calacanis’ talk, so tune back in tomorrow morning. In the meantime (and while my photos from today get uploaded to Flickr), enjoy this video from Affiliate Summit’s Shawn Collins and Missy Ward:

I have no idea where you get the strength to keep going Sam. Just returned from SAS event and the number of people and the mix continues to surprise me. Lots of old timers and new people or old timers from other industry.

I recall someone making a comment along the lines of so you remember “So and so” it was about “seven or eight years ago”.

Long time.
