It has been way way too long since I have posted to ReveNews and it feels great to be back.
Those of you in the affiliate marketing community will agree that research data on our industry is scarce. There are a few good sources for affiliate data such as:
However, most of these studies are from the advertiser/merchant perspective, not the affiliate/publisher. This is the reason that NETexponent has decided to launch our own affiliate marketing research study. We recently sent an email to a select group of affiliates in our proprietary database asking for their input. These few thousand affiliates/publishers have the chance to provide their feedback in exchange for a copy of the survey results.
I would like to also invite readers of this blog, who are affiliates/publishers, to fill out this short (26 question) survey and provide us with your thoughts. In exchange for a few minutes of your time we will send you a copy of the survey results.
The goal of our survey is to give the affiliate community a clearer understanding of:
NOTE TO AFFILIATES: NETexponent respects the privacy of affiliates and only aggregate information will be shared. If you are not familiar with us then please read what other affiliates have to say.
I greatly appreciate your time and input…and so will the rest of the affiliate community!
Thanks for listening
Hi Peter, The survey promises a copy of the report to all participants who complete it, but doesn’t ask for an email address or a physical address. Or did I skip that page?
I assume that means every participant is going to get a phone call?
Also, the survey also forces us to choose between affiliate and affiliate merchant. As I’m sure you know, many of us are both.
Allan, No you didn’t miss it. I had the same observation… and question. How they going to get the report to us?
thanks for your comments gents…we will call you both in order to get you the survey results…but based on this feedback we have added an email address field.
Allan, if you are both an affiliate and a merchant please choose only affiliate
Peter great initiative. I agree there is far to little research/data on and from within such a large interactive marketing segment. We have created specialized advisory boards and focus groups to be able to get meaningful information from inside our community so we can develop new systems for the empowering publishers and affiliates.
I look forward to the data from the survey.
Thanks for the words of encouragement Peter…I hope this survey can help companies better understand our industry
Let me know any way we can help support this initiative. We will post it on RelevantlySpeaking.com and push it out thru our social channels.
Encouraging more affiliates to fill out the survey is really the best way to help. Thanks for the generous offer.
Hi Peter:)
I’m a small affiliate that saw this so took your survey. I’m not going to include a link to their site in my post and I hope this isn’t considered any type of spam since I honestly am not intending to do that.
I’m not sure if you’re somehow not aware of them or was just a little boo boo by the person who actually made up the survey.
I believe it may have been question #7 asked about technology relating to different affiliate networks. You listed the networks but didn’t include one or have an “other” option so it could be included.
Just my opinion but definitely feel that AvantLink should’ve been included in the options. I know I’m not alone in my thinking and that there are quite a few other affiliates that would agree. (even am aware of some of the biggie affiliates who feel this way who may not have done your survey)
Again, I admit I like them and am an affiliate with their network. (am with all the other major networks, too though and am not saying anythng negative about those) I honestly am not trying to spam or promote them here. Am honestly just trying to point out something I think was somehow missed in your survey that could be possibly important in your results.
If you feel it’s not appropriate to say this, please feel free to not include my comment.

Allan -
Thank you so much for your feedback regarding the survey. Could you perhaps email survey “at” NETexponent “dot” com with your contact information? I want to ensure that you receive the survey results.
Thanks again!

Second that, AvantLink should be included, in my opinion.
Hello Kathy and Pat, Thank you for taking the time to complete our survey. Your suggestion has definitely been noted and we will look to improve our survey next time around. We are learning a lot through this process and while we are proud of this first research project, we know it will be better next time. Feel free to email any further suggestions to survey (at) NETexponent (dot) com
and thanks again
Just wanted to note that I didn’t complete your survey, surveys don’t interest me much. But thanks for being receptive to my (actually Kathy’s, and my support of it) input here. Appreciate that.
Hi Peter:)
Just wanted to point out what I had mentioned as something that should definitely have been included.
You’re very welcome. Please understand my intention was definitely not to sound critical of it. I think your survey was a good idea and you should be proud.
I’d like to echo what Pat said, also. I very much appreciate that you included my comment even though it may have sounded a bit critical and that you were receptive to both my opinion and Pat’s.
pssst. I’ll be happy to take your next even more improved survey when you have it:)
We look forward to your participation next time around Kathy (and you too Pat)
Cheers
Hey Peter,
I filled out the survey and totally agree that there are way too little facts and figures available about this industry. It is not only a big fuzzy cloud for industry outsiders, but more most industry insiders as well.
It’s good to hear that you decided to make your findings available publicly. Thanks for that.
Cheers!
Thanks for the vote of support Carsten, I will make sure you get a copy of the survey results.
best,
Peter
I could not agree with you more. We have been doing research and have found very little research that is not external vanilla information. We would love to have more granular data that breaks down the performance marketing industry.
