Social Media Group ONE vs Group TWO – Round 5
In Web 2.0 is everything about people and their opinion. Community Sites like Del.icio.us lets share people their bookmarks, Digg lets people vote on News Stories people think are important. StubledUpon took that concept a bit further and let people with the same interest interact and also provide more than just a 1-Click vote or the Addition of a few tags by allowing users to write and discuss full fledged reviews.
The important thing with all those services is that “Ring” or “Group” building is an essential part if you want to make sure that your voice is being heart. This urge to control and influence others is probably a human trait that you can not simply educate away and will remain with us for generations to come.
The problem is that this group building causes the building of groups that are completely against the other group, seeing each other as “enemy”.
This behavior and the sometimes “ugly” manifestations of those structures are an issue for most social sites and none of them has found a solution for this yet.
I came across another service today which seems to be fairly new, because the “usual crowd” did not show up in force you and made their presence felt.
The Site is called TheBestStuffInTheWorld.com and is not referring to itself with that name, but lets people create and express what they believe to be the best in existing or new categories and sub categories anybody can create.

If the “thing” or “activity” you feel strong about already exists, you can extend it and provide additional arguments or expand it to other categories.
You then simply vote what this is the Best Of, or if you are competing with something else go and express what you think about the “other” 2nd, 3rd or XXXX best in the world in the categories you care about
. Express that there is something better! Yes!
If you are kind of neutral but are intrigued only bookmark it without expressing a strong connection with it.
I don’t know, but it seems to me that this service is adding “salt to the wound” and tries to encourage this normally unwanted behaviour at social sites. Interesting to watch where this will be going.
Oh yes, I almost forgot. I added ReveNews and voted it the best in various categories like “Business Blogs”, “News Blogs”, “Affiliate Marketing Blogs” and a few more, because I think it is the best.
And by the way, I picked up a “Vote Bubble” for it which I added to this post that everybody who agrees with me can vote for it, or against it if you don’t, but I dare you to even think about that.. hehehe.
Okay, you will be forgiven, but only because it is Christmas and I promised that I will be nice on Christmas. Aany other day would you not have gotten away that easy!
Cheers and Merry Christmas!
