Calling affiliates or adsense publishers… there’s a new CPC in town
Okay, so the title is dramatic, but if you’re reading this, I made you look. There’s breaking news today, a new type of CPC ad provider entered the scene, and the rules of the game have changed.
No, not just another ad network, this company already has a large stable of advertisers and a fair amount of traffic. They’re already RSS everything, and I’ve used their main service in the past and still subscribe to one of their custom RSS feeds. I even know someone inside because I provided a recomendation to someone who intereviewed there.
Okay, enough cloak and dagger — the new product launch by simply hired is one of those “aha” moments that just makes sense. They introduced an “adwords for jobs” service that’s an extension of their existing business. You can see jobamatic here.
Now just because I use the parent company doesn’t mean I’ll use Jobomatic, nor does it mean that I’ll make money using them or that others will. It’s an idea that just makes sense so let’s take a quick look at why this could be a good deal or bad deal. The CPC model could be a great deal for advertisers who have direct HR effort and for publishers. There are almost always jobs that need filling, and the listing fees for most big job sites cost an arm and a leg, while others cost more, requiring you to throw in your first born. On the other hand, Craigslist jobs cost $75 here in the Bay Area, So for the price of a Craigslist ad, and a CPC of $0.25, you could get 300 clicks and >250 candidates looking at your job (I subbed 15% fraud). That’s not bad, but of course the low prices may not last, and the CPC could quickly rise to $1 or more. But wait –> that mean bloggers and publishers could get some hefty change as the CPC from these higher cost ads drives revenue share upwards.
This all looks good on the surface, but in the end the recruiters and hiring companies will need to deliver an ROI that beats their other efforts. Similarly, the click fraud, user relevance, and targeting will need to be sorted out all over again with a limited number of sites worth posting job ads. Lastly, aren’t there some patents around some of this technology? In any case, I’m encouraged by the fact that it just makes sense.
