Business Logo Stamps Now Available

The United States Post Office has approved corporate logos for custom postage, something prevously barred by a nineteenth-century law of Congress. This morning, I ordered Schaaf Consulting’s logo on Zazzle.com. I almost abandoned my shopping cart for Stamps.com when they asked for my birthday, but Zazzle seems to produce larger stamps, so I suffered a minor invasion of privacy.

Here’s an article with background on the story. Stamps.com launched the first pilot program in the second half of 2004 but was quickly embarassed when TheSmokingGun slid Slobodan Milosevic, Ted Kaczynski, disgraced former New Jersey Governor Jim McGreevey, and others on stamps. Despite this, in April 2005, several companies were again approved for custom stamps.

Now in 2006, you can have your company logo turned into a stamp. 1 sheet of 20 39 cent stamps costs $17.99, about 90 cents a stamp. I don’t know that I can justify buying lots at the high price, but I couldn’t resist buying one sheet.

I'm waiting until I can put my logo on U.S. coins. I wonder how the numismatics* would feel about this?

*Just wanted to get some points

  • Jonathan (Trust)

Oh no, I think I might have gotten that wrong. It should be numismatists, those that study and the actual study is numismatics. No points.
