When You Mess With The Google, You Get The ‘HOOrns’

April 3rd, 2005 by Jim Kukral

Wordpress guru Matt Mullenweg responds to the heat he’s been taking lately about his run-in with big, bad Google. If you don’t know the whole back-story, go here.

I believe Matt has learned an important lesson in life and business, and one that most certainly plays out in the world of the wild, wild Internet…

If it feels like the wrong thing to do, it most likely is, so don’t do it.

Wordpress is most certainly one of the best blogging tools out there today, and should still be considered as an option for new bloggers, despite the tussle with the big G.

Does anyone else agree with me that the Google brand is going the way of Apple…from cool to fools?

I was an earlier Apple user (evangelist?) with an Apple II and then an early Mac. Apple had (still has?) the best technology. The place where Apple lost to Wintel was not in technology but in marketing. Steve Jobs learned. Look at Apple today. Better technology and better marketing (at least for the iPod).

Google understands both technology and marketing. It’s problems lay elsewhere.

Yeah, but it’s undeniable that at some point, I don’t care who you are, your business becomes so big, like it or not, the coolness factor fades. I blame the lawyers :p
