Hello Jeff,

Great case! This is why we have been producing affiliate videos for our clients affiliate programs as an extension of affiliate media to increase sales! We believed video and the new tracking technologies for the use of video in affiliate programs would gain momentum which it has.

See you in NY soon

I happen to disagree here, it's not high quality production that's compelling (though low quality certainly hurts), it's the content. Substance over style, but realizing that in many areas style is the substance. If I were selling mens suits, the videos better be very high quality. But if I were selling boat anchors, I could make a digital graphics piece (as opposed to live video production) that shows the large selection of anchors that I offer, or highlights some cool online tool I offer that makes shopping for anchors super easy, and I'd be perfectly fine using super low cost video.

Further, the most effective use of video I've found is in Google AdWords distribution and currently where the ad space is somewhat small meaning high-quality HD live production video is a complete overkill.

"It seems to me that much of this flies in the face of what most social media gurus tell us — that it’s easy, low-cost and high impact."
Jeff, I hope you're not actually listening to social media gurus. :-)

As you're doing with this article here, I'd suggest sticking to listening to people who actually do it. Hahahaa. Yes, there's diversity of opinion among the doers, but there's substance too. Awwhhh crap, there's that "substance" thing again.

Mr. Magree is correct in saying that DYI videos should be done well, however, I think his comments may come across as discouraging to some companies. Shooting your own video doesn’t have to be expensive or complicated, in fact a lot of companies probably have already have footage that they can post on sites like YouTube or eCorpTV – demonstrations, interviews, webinars, conferences, etc. If not, break out the camera and interview some well-spoken execs or film some customer testimonials. Leverage the creativity of your team to come up with web worthy video content.
