What Day was the Busiest Online Shopping Day in 2007? Shall we call it Whopping Web Wednesday?
Ok, the dust is starting to settle on the online shopping days, and there have been a lot of names given to days to signify the biggest days in online retail. First their was CyberMonday, which has now proven to be no even close to the busiest online shopping day (actually 12th this year) but is being referred to as the start of the online holiday season. Then we had eDay, the following Monday after Cybermonday. eDay ended up being the 3rd busiest day. Next we had dMonday, the name for the Monday 2 weeks prior to Christmas where people could reasonably expect their presents to be delivered onetime. This year that ended up as December 11th. dMonday actually came in as the 2nd busiest shopping day, two days later, Wednesday December 13th, came in as the top online spending day with just 7 business days and 9 potential shipping days left before Christmas. Are we going to name this day too????
Here are the top days listed in order according to comScore:
1st – Wednesday, December 13 – $666.9 Million “Whopping Web Wednesday??”
2nd – Monday, December 11 – $660.8 Million “dMonday”
3rd – Monday, December 4 – $647.5 Million “eDay”
4th – Friday, December 8 – $638.2 Million (Naming Rights up for Grabs)
5th – Thursday, December 14 – $634.4 Million (Naming Rights up for Grabs)
6th – Wednesday, December 6 – $630.6 Million ((Naming Rights up for Grabs)
7th – Thursday, December 7 – $629.4 Million (Naming Rights up for Grabs)
8th – Friday, December 15 – $623.9 (Naming Rights up for Grabs)
9th – Tuesday, December 12 – $619.8 Million (Naming Rights up for Grabs)
10th – Tuesday, December 5 – $612.3 Million (Naming Rights up for Grabs)
11th – Tuesday, November 28 – $608.2 Million (Naming Rights up for Grabs)
12th – Monday, November 27 – $607.6 Million “Cyber Monday”
Interesting to note, in the top 12 online shopping days of Christmas (there should be a song here…), there were 3 Mondays, 3 Tuesdays, 2 Wednesdays, 2 Thursdays, and 2 Fridays. So one would be hard pressed to say Monday’s are the busiest online shopping days. Clearly with no weekends showing up as top shopping days, people prefer to shop online during the week, most likely at the office where their kids and spouses aren’t likely to see what they are purchasing.
Happy Holidays!
