Great tips - I also think it's important to have fun using the social media. It can be important for your business but you are building relationships too! And, that should be fun! I am happy to see you made the point about it not being short term though... it's easy to think short term when Stumble Upon sends you 1000 unique visitors in one day - but what have those visitors REALLY done for your website if they are only there for 2 seconds?!

Nice blog. Found you through MIXX

When I first got onto Twitter, I was tweeting every hour just to be graded better on Twitter Grader. It sounds stupid but I guess there are people with such ego needs at times. :p

That didn’t went on for long as I realized that I was wasting my time on these social media platforms rather than building myself a brand or relationship with others. I changed my “behavior” a little, applied some niche-related tweets into my Twitter routine to cancel out the voice and viola, I got myself a win-win situation where I am able to focus on my “real tasks” and not losing my social media community.

Unless your business is entirely dependent on social media platforms (like those Twitter applications, Facebook apps or “social media consultants”), you shouldn’t be obsessed with these social media platforms. ;)
