IAC finally launched its shopping comparison software (not website) this week. It is called Pronto, not Red Carpet as previously rumored (or previously named). Brian Smith has a nice write up on it at Comparison Engines so I won’t repeat what he wrote.
This may or may not scratch IAC off of my list of companies that need to buy a shopping comparison engine. Pronto only hasa small part of the pie at this point. The search engine does not seem that strong. As Pronto is in beta, I think we need to reserve judgment on the database. Let’s see how it looks in 3-6 months to see if Pronto has good coverage of products and if reviews are in. I do have to ponder why they called the pop ups “Toast”.
In the meantime, who do you think will buy Nextag?
