We No Longer Work With Coupon Sites

May 17th, 2005 by Connie Berg

In the last few months I have gotten several termination notices from merchants. Many not even top brand merchants. The reason? They are no longer working with coupon sites.

What constitutes a coupon site in a merchants eyes? MSN Shopping, Yahoo Shopping, Bizrate, they all have coupons. Yet they aren’t considered coupon sites nor terminated. They don’t want to be on coupon sites, yet they work with Ebates, which has coupons and offers cash back, along with having a questionable reputation.

Yes, I have coupons on my site, I offer discounts, but I also have price comparison, links to stores products and basic store categories. I offer many things on my site. I have great traffic, I am honest, I have ethical practices and a great reputation.
I also have another site that isn’t coupon focused at all, it is all products and price comparison.

I can understand a merchant not wanting to have the word discount associated with their name. We have alternate pages so they don’t have to have the word Discount associated with their name. We can display their brand in any way they choose.

Is it fair for a merchant to lump me in with all other coupon sites and terminate me without even talking to me to work on their placement?
Couldn’t they do their terminations case by case and not lump us all together?
