Godin is looking for new ideas? I have to comment…

September 7th, 2006 by Caryl Felicetta

So, I come out of hiatus to throw something out there. Seth Godin posted a quote today that seemed to be a solicitation for “help in finding something creative, untested, unproven, off the wall, risky, fashionable and challenging.”

I don’t think Seth is really asking “us” for advice. It is, certainly getting picked up that way, which I am sure was his intention. And hey, it’s certainly a good way to get some new ideas for future books!

So a request for an idea is thrown out there; I feel the need to respond. I heard my call to action…yet I don’t see it. I can use the “Email me” link on the left hand column, but then the whole world does not get to see or comment on my “big idea.” That’s the ticket right there…it’s a blog, with no where to comment. You might recall a few months back, our own Jim Kukral noted that Godin had turned off commenting. So a tree falls in the forest, we heard it, but can’t really tell everyone we heard it!

So here’s your chance…post your big idea for Godin right here on ReveNews! Like he said:

“I’m not asking your advice because I need help coming up with a tried and true, predictable, safe or proven idea. No, I’ve already tried all of those and they didn’t work. I’m asking your help in finding something creative, untested, unproven, off the wall, risky, fashionable and challenging. Don’t let me down. Don’t hesitate to share your crazy idea… it might just be the one.”

Go ahead…show us “the one.”

Thanks for reading. the reason my post is in quotes is that I was quoting an imaginary person asking you for advice in a meeting… just to spark you to be bolder.

Hey Seth! Thank YOU for reading. And for the clarity. :)

I suggest Seith read http://www.ecomcity.com/safehaven-network.htm for a fresh look at curing the ills of existing affiliate advertising network models. Another simple cure I propose to circumvent Google’s propensity to whack affiliate sites, with bunches of network links, is to raise capable affiliates to a merchant status on expeptional individual product sales pages.

Merchant AM’s could personally review submitted pages, and if they excel, give that affiliate page an actual cart enabled “add to cart” button and track the sale for a premium sales commission. So many merchant’s are hamstrung by really crappy barren sales pages not worthy of a natural SERP or PPCSE expense. Reward excellence in value-add affiliate marketing … not cookie cannon trickery.

I’ve never been a box bound thinker.

Before we begin, I would like to apologize for falling out of touch. It’s been like two-weeks since I last posted here at RN. Sorry. I am sure many of you are having a hard time getting out of bed…
