I was writing about User Generated Advertising Web 2.0 Style almost two months ago.
I talked about deviantART.com, a social network for hobby and professional artists from around the world and that you should leverages places like that for your marketing purposes.
I also mentioned some of the contests that were launched and helt in the past to give you some ideas about how exactly communities like dA can be used to create buzz for your business and great artwork to be used for your other marketing purposes as well.
I checked on the “Skin a Scion” contest, which is one of the biggest contests at dA this year with a car as a grand price.
I was blown away when I checked the submissions to the contest today. There are over 4250!!! submissions to date.
Most of them are looking very cool. Yes, there are also some very basic ones, but the majority of submissions show that the artists are making serious attempts to take the grand prize home. There are only about two weeks left for the contest and I am sure that until then a few hundred more pieces will enter the contest.
Also recently announced were the Eagle Vs Shark Poster Contest Winners! (See contest announcement).
This smaller contest had over 300!! submissions (See all submissions).
Here are the three winning entries for the contest. Not bad for “amateurs”.

The teen star’s Avril Lavigne “The Best Damn Thing” T-shirt Design Contest was just announced a few days ago, on July 20th. There are already 90 submissions to this contest.
The prizes are not very big. The winner gets $500, 2 concert tickets, 3 CDs, a framed album and a free T-shirt with his design on it. The 2nd prize is only $250, 1 CD and 1 T-Shirt and the 3rd prize is $100 +CD and T-Shirt. Ridiculous cheap. Okay, there will be the dA promo fee, but that fee is also just a few grant, if that. See the details in my previous post from June.
This shows the power of Web 2.0 communities like deviantART.
The participation is HUGE, the results are phenomenal and the cost are relatively low compared to getting designs done via classic media companies, where you won’t get the exposure to a multi-million user community as a bonus as well.
I just wanted to show you, what you miss out on.
Cheers!
Is this longest ‘barren’ spell at Revenews? Is it a lull before some great changes?
