Great post ,
I was notified by the network for the recent fraud yestoday . However , I can not found any record for the affiliate.

Today , Carsten`s post remind me that there are some order recorded at network , but not record in our system.

I do not care much at that time and just cancel those orders . I know it must be the fraud 100% now .

Brad, I was explaining that in detail in my previous post. Pixeltracking is used by third party tracking solutions and is popular, because it is the method that requires the least modifications to the merchants shopping cart system.

Unfortunately does this convenience come with a cost attached to it, which I tried to make aware of in the last third of my post.

Peter, yep you are right, but the post was already long enough to cover more. I did not want to make it a book

A great article on the network model, but you missed a few points on in-house programs. Without a need for sending the data to a third party, you have no need for pixel tracking or API calls. A combination of cookie and session tracking can give reliable and accurate real time tracking of all activity.

Wow what a mega post – quality too. Nice job Carsten.

Just to add re the tracking – more advanced systems use IP tracking and also flash cookies, which apparently are not erased as often as regular cookies.

The best “commission leak-proof” affiliate tracking systems are the ones where the affiliate id is mapped to the customer in a database, which can also provide features like “customer for life” – a concept gaining ground in the internet marketing sphere.
