Miva Click Fraud Story - Part Deux

November 23rd, 2006 by Carsten Cumbrowski

I got today the response of Miva to last weeks post about my experiences with click fraud at Miva.

Miva contacted me after they read the post at Search Engine Journal where I published it also, but slightly modified (due to the difference in readership between SEJ and RN)

I posted the response at Search Engine Journal as they requested.
They are not very familiar with the thing called “blogging” so I was fair and disabled comments at the SEJ Blog for that post. They included a phone number and email though you are free to use to contact them.

That they are not very familiar with blogging show this question I got from them via email.

“Would that date coincide with your posting deadlines?”

.. hehehe… I had to explain to her (my contact at Miva) that

a) there is no editor breathing down my neck about what I write

b) blogs don’t know a “deadline”. The only thing you could consider “deadline” is the freshness or actuality of your posts content. If it is too old and stuff that is done and over already, then you passed the deadline ;)
c) I don’t get paid (as pretty much any other blogger) for doing this, so there better be no editor breathing down my neck or a deadline I have to make… right Jimmy?

Cheers and Happy Thanksgiving.
Carsten

I agree, miva is a fraud.

I tried a campaign with them and all my clicks came from china and my budget dissapeared in just few minutes.

I reported the incident, they didn’t reply to my email.

They are nothing but a fraud and please do not use them or you will regret it.

I also agree! Miva is a complete fraud and scam. Their customer service is terrible. I was told that I would receive valid clicks from their system and “search engine partners”. Little did they know about my system that records everything in detail. Every click that came through was a “redirect” and when I would click on the link, the page was empty and my ad did not appear in any shape or form at all - nor did other ads! It looked exactly as domain forwarding.

I contacted Miva about these invalid clicks, and requested a full refund and although I’ve only used a small portion of my budget and the rest has not been used as I stopped the Miva campaign, they are taking their sweet time to respond back. They keep saying “we’re investigating the clicks” and they are wasting my time.

I have tried a lot of PPC and Miva definitely has the worst possible quality clicks. It’s complete fraud and scam.

I would not post this if they processed by refund promptly, but since they are refusing to refund my account and I have been forced to contact BBB and my credit card company, I like to let everyone know about my experience so they can save their time and prevent the headache of dealing with Miva.

I agree with both of you and this is about a year and a half later! MIVA is a scam as far as I can tell too. I have spent about 80$ so far on MIVA and have generated a total of 0 sales, even though my Google campaign is generating me much more! I suggest you do not use it!

Just to give you an update, Miva NEVER got back to me regarding my refund. Any time I contact them through their “Live Chat”, they say someone will get back to me “tomorrow” and NOBODY every does! And guess what? They keep blocking me through their chat system, so once I chat with them, I can’t see their Live Chat button anymore. So be aware people - if you request for a refund, not only you will not hear back from Miva - but they will also block you through their chat (using your IP address) so they don’t have to deal with you! Now, that’s what I call terrible customer service and a complete scam!

Miva is nothing but a scam and their customer service is a joke.

Hi Everyone,

For all those interested in pursuing this further, I strongly suggest filing a complaint with the SEC.

I did a bit of research on MIVA and they are a publicly traded company, governed by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). As such, any and all complaints should be directed to:

http://www.sec.gov/complaint.shtml

The more of us who have been frauded by MIVA file complaints, the more seriously the SEC will take this, so please register your complaint with the SEC today, it only takes 5 minutes!

Good luck, and even though we may not be able to get our money back, at least we will prevent other people from getting defrauded!
