Work and Home- Bridging The Divide With More Google Tools
“What was the site I bookmarked while at work?” I ask myself that question frequently since work always seems to follow me home. (I completely blame work-a-holics like Wayne Porter)
If you’re like me and have multiple computing environments like your work PC, portable, and perhaps even a home PC then you know the pains of having bookmarks, history, saved passwords and cookies scattered across multiple machines. Murphy’s Law governs that the bookmark or password I need most are never on the machine I’m currently working on. There are a few free tools on the market that help with bookmarks like Del.icio.us, but most have limits.
Since my main work is research I am always on the lookout for tools that save time- because time is money. I stumbled on a nifty tool from Google called, “Google Browser Sync for Firefox”
Google Browser Sync for Firefox is an extension that continuously synchronizes your browser settings – including bookmarks, history, persistent cookies, and saved passwords – across your computers. It also allows you to restore open tabs and windows across different machines and browser sessions
The feature I’ve actually enjoyed the most is the restore open tabs function which automatically opens and loads the pages I was just working with at another location. Setup and configuration was a breeze. Simply download and install the plug-in, fill out your Google account information and you’re up and running.
