Web-entrepenuer-friendly fulfillment house iFulfill.com unexpectedly announced last night that, “as of this morning, iFulfill.com will, for all practical purposes, cease to exist,” according to an email to merchant clients from the President, Paul Perdue. No more orders being shipped, no more incoming deliveries being accepted, no more returns being processed. Apparantly Paul isn’t even sure how long they will continue to receive emails or exactly how we’ll get our remaining stock (”We will notify you via email at the email address that this notice is being sent to,” Paul explained in the announcement, “when your shipment is ready for pickup.”)
This can’t be an easy position for a high-touch customer service expert like Paul, who closed his surprising email with, “I apologize for the trauma that this will undoubtedly cause, and I will work hard to minimize the impact on you and your business.” So far, their website has yet to be updated with the news. In recent weeks, Paul’s weblog was focused on the topic of “overinfrastructuralization” in small businesses. I wonder now if we didn’t get a peek into the problems he was facing.
Brian was one of my first clients back in the Haxen Films “Freakylink” days. He knows how hard I’ve worked to build the company, and how hard this is for me.
There are two things that frequently cause companies to close their doors: rapid growth and undercapitalization. We had them both! End of Story.
Thanks for your support, Brian!!
After the major snafus we experienced with Ifulfill over the past few weeks, I’m not surprised. Shocked, but not surprised.
Notice that Paul’s email made no mention of a refund of money on deposit.
Apparantly Herb Duggan at Dart Logistics is arranging to take as many tractor trailer loads as necessary to accomodate Ifulfill refugees. According to an email I received from Ultracart, they will match the Ifulfill pricing structure for 60-90 days, then review each account with the expectation of a rate reduction. I guess it’s worth a shot.
How bad could it be? I just hope we can get our product out of Ifulfill!
