Wynn, Wynn, Lose (Karen White Terminated from Wynn after Affiliate Fam Tour)

On March 28th , I flew out to Las Vegas for the Wynn Las Vegas’ Affiliate Fam Tour. The Fam tour, in case you haven’t heard of it, is a great perk offered to Wynn affiliates, where they invite select affiliates to the Hotel for 2 nights, take them out to dinner and their shows, and give them the grand tour of the Wynn. It was a great experience, I learned a lot about the Wynn, made some great relationships, and continued to build on my existing relationship with the Wynn Affiliate team.

Everyone that went on the Fam tour, seemed to have a great time. We got a nice tour of the hotel, a fancy las vegas dinner and saw SPAMALOT, the new show at the Wynn Las Vegas.

But alas, a few short days after the Wynn fam tour ended, Karen White, the Wynn Affiliate Manager, was let go. From what I can tell it appears to be a changing of the guard in the Wynn’s Internet marketing team and the official word is that Karen “didn’t fit with the team they were trying to build“.

Karen was the major force and advocate behind the Wynn affiliate program, so I am not sure exactly what that means for the future of their program. We have been told that Katie Hoffmann-Lanier will be the contact for affiliates until they figure out what’s next.

For those who know Karen, she will be missed a great deal. She is a strong supporter of affiliate marketing, had been the voice of the affiliates inside the Wynn, and was instrumental in the growth of the Wynn’s affiliate program. Karen was awarded the Commission Junction Horizon People Award in 2006 for her work at the Wynn.

Karen is currently looking for new opportunities, and I am sure will be a strong force and affiliate advocate wherever she ends up.

As for the Wynn Affiliate Program, her shoes will be hard to fill and I wonder of their program will continue, or if the Wynn’s commitment to the affiliate program in general will dissipate. Only time will tell…

Adam, I too am saddened to see Karen go. Wynn Las Vegas is one of my top 5 Star clients and Karen was my point person there. I've talked to her at length but have not heard anything from the company yet in terms of their future plans for the affiliate program or Karen's replacement. My hope is the program will continue to grow, based on the highly successful foundation that has already been built.

Karen has some great options, but is still looking and is willing to relocate too. If you need to reach her and don't know how, Adam or I can help connect you with her.

That's too bad. Karen is fantastic.

I'm at the Wynn right now with my family for a 4-day weekend. The Wynn is the best hotel I've ever stayed at in Vegas, and I suspect Karen's experience will lead to myriad lucrative opportunities.

Advertisers who need to succeed online are not in short supply; people who know how to make that happen are.

Thanks all of you for your kind words.

Adam, thanks for the post. It was so symbolic of all the things that I've grown to adore, respect , and appreciate about Adam Viener.

hmmmm…Okay, so when I read the headline, I almost expected Donald Trump to jump out at me.

Also, I got MY Famtour Picture. I loved that picure, and it totally made the straight 72 hours of work and the 5 shoe changes I had to make during the FamTour all worth while.

    Best,

    Karen

So what happens when an affiliate manager is let go? Do they continue to receive a paycheck from all of the business building that they have worked on?
No. The majority of the time.
Unless the person is smart enough to negotiate into the contract a severence policy that includes commissions based on continued business from the network. Hopefully that didnt happen to you Karen.

Just wanted to let you know that I've been in talks with the Wynn and want to re-assure everyone that the program will continue much as it is today, in fact it may even get better. Some new things are on the horizon I can't talk about quite yet, but it's all good.

They have hired a new manager, but while that person gets settled and up to speed, Katie Lanier will be your contact if you need anything. If you don't have her contact info please feel free to reach me. I'll have more Wynn news soon over at the 5 Star blog.
