Recognizing 9/11

The 9/11 anniversary is upon us and reflecting on the events of five years ago brings a renewed sobriety to me, especially in light of our having a new baby this year.

Going through my daily routine, I was hit hard with Shareasale’s temporary landing page. Today, in recognition of the events on September 11, 2001, Shareasale is closed for business and has logins available for “urgent” use:

ShareASale will be closed for the day of September 11, 2006, in memory of those lives lost, and to honor the heroes from that morning and thousands of other mornings when peace was chosen over war. The events of September 11, 2001 touched millions of us both here in the United States of America, and abroad. For each life that was stolen, a memory and a legacy was left behind to carry – and for those who carry them, life has changed forever.

We will never forget those who lost their lives, or those who gave their lives in the hope of saving another.

Recognizing that there may be urgent situations, although we hope that there are not, we have setup the following [login links follow]…

A website shutdown. That’s quite a statement. I am working today, but will acknowledge Shareasale’s gesture, not log in, and allow them to remain “closed” for me. I will work today and do what I can to send some traffic to SAS merchants. Because what’s truly impresive is that they’re giving all their proceeds from today to the Red Cross International Relief Fund.

Classy move by SAS. I too am working today however. I like to remember this day by making a large $$$ purchase at an American made company, which I have done every year since.

Nothing says "you haven't won" like bolstering our economy on one of our darkest days, I think anyway.

I am working too but with a heavy heart vividly remembering how our lives changed forever on that day. I commend Brian and the ShareASale team for their actions that help us never forget.

I also am very thankful for the sacrifices our troops are making in Afghanistan, Iraq and in other harsh locations fighting an enemy that wants to kill us and our kids simply because we are not like them.

Jim, I like your idea to buy American. While that's an ongoing goal for me, I think it's especially fitting for today.

I'll never forget it, was sitting here watching the news as it unfolded, talk about a wake up call. Osama better hope I never run into him in a dark alley…
