Promoting & Monetizing TV Related Affiliate Offers or Websites

An interesting post came out on MarketingVox titled, Adults Often Online When Watching TV, a report compiled by video search engine Blinkx. Here is what they found which is very interesting and pay close attention to the bold stats:

  • 78 percent of US online adults have gone online while watching TV.
  • 35 percent report doing so often or always.
  • 62 percent look for content unrelated to what they’re watching.
  • 25 percent seek information specific to that programming, such as…
    • Profiles of actors (51 percent look for such info)
    • Products/services that appeared in or were advertised during the program (40 percent)
    • Related upcoming events (39 percent)

So, look for offers on your affiliate network that have to do and related to TV shows, events, etc. People are actively seeking what they are watching on TV and if you’re doing paid search, there are peak times to increase your bids as you can see on Google Trends.

Let me give you a quick example, today is Sunday, and I’m writing this post at 8pm. What’s hot on Sundays? NBA basketball has primetime games on Sundays starting at 3pm. Today, the San Antonio Spurs plays the Phoenix Suns. Two of the top keywords on Google Trends were Los Spurs and Los Suns which are two keywords written on the teams jerseys. Now, if you were promoting an NBA offer related to both teams or running a sales based affiliate offer selling jerseys, you’re traffic would have peaked.

Use television to your advantage to give you ideas about trends, keywords, and more.

That is interesting. I know I am constantly watching tv with my laptop on my lap surfing at the same time. Several times I have seen an ad and gone to the website to learn more.
