Launching Your Affiliate Offer: Be Cautious or Aggressive?

Many people who enter the affiliate marketing space are either cautious/conservative or very un-cautious and can spend a lot of money quick in the engines if you don’t keep a close eye on what you’re doing.

I’ve been successful with affiliate marketing by finding a balance of being cautious and at the same time, very aggressive in the marketing of my offer through various sources of promoting it and trying to find as many related keywords as possible.

I sometimes talk to people who tell me they aren’t doing so well so when I ask them about how many affiliate offers they are running and how they are doing it, I get low numbers for the most part as a response. What do I mean? Some people launch a campaign by starting out in an engine or two, a few ad groups (3-5) and testing the offer from there. That works for you? Really?

If it does, great! I’m writing this post to tell you what works for ME. I like going all out on my affiliate offer. I’ll place ads everywhere I can and find as many keywords as possible and launch from there. I then make a decision about my offer and where I should go from there and if its something worth the time to keep going.

What I find is that launching your affiliate offer in a conservative way (unless you found a great source of traffic for real cheap) could (for the most part) lead to a let down because the traffic or conversions may not be there. Then what happens? You say to yourself, “this doesn’t really work.” I like to push an offer to its full potential from launch time, at least try to as much as possible, that way I know if it doesn’t work, it really doesn’t work.

I found it harder to build up then to build down. Sure, you may spend some cash launching aggressively at first but I think it will give you a better handle on the campaign and where you can go with it.

I’d like to hear your thoughts or strategy on how you launch your affiliate offer.

Interesting post and welcome to ReveNews, Pablo. This does fly in the face of what I've heard some people suggest as far as launching a program goes, so I'm eager to see how people respond.

We look fwd to many more posts from you!

Sam, that sounds like you're talking more about a merchant launching a program/offer, where he sounds like's he talking about launching as an affiliate.

I have tried both ways and at this time I favour a more cautious appraoch. As you said it can be really easy to spend a bundle very quickly on promoting something that does not convert well. This is particularly true when it comes to using PPC. You can be quite aggressive with other channels for marketing a product but PPC can eat up a budget very quickly. nevertheless your article has got me thinking that perhaps soemtimes I am too cautious.
