Forgetting Past Sins

Do you remember what Rob Lowe did that ruined his career? Wait, he has a career again. While his shows post The West Wing may not have had much success, he keeps getting new shows, the true sign of success in Hollywood. Why? Because people forget. Scandals blow over. As Elvis Costello sang: Yesterday’s news is tomorrow’s fish and chip paper.

Two months ago, Jeff Molander launched “The Affiliate List” to much drama and scandal. The forums went wild. Two affiliates launched anonymous blogs demanding to be removed from The List. Both stopped posting mysteriously on July 15th.

What happened? Were they removed? Is there another reason they stopped posting?

Has The List become a necessary tool for all affiliate managers or was it an idea that didn’t take hold?

In any event, there was a lot of noise at the time. Jeff rode it out the way Laird Hamilton rides waves. Yet, like Rob Lowe’s scandal or most others, who remembers and if they do, who cares?

    Its affiliate land. There is a new “scandal” everyday. The mob gets angry, they scream, they move on.

    “stopped posting mysteriously on July 15th”

    That mystery might have something to do with the fact that on July 15 I mentioned publicly (in a post on ThreadWatch.org) that Mr. Molander had sent me a letter threatening legal action. (I had said some very angry things about being included in that list without my knowledge or consent. I apologized for the tone of some things, although not the substance.)

    I have yet to see what that list says about me, although I made it clear in private correspondence with Mr. Molander that I wanted to know. If he ever tried to send me a copy it never came through.

    I thought his comeback was 13 years ago with Wayne’s World?!

    Anyhow, I guess Jeff’s Affiliate List was his version of Lowe’s movie, Square Dance. Good cast, but some people just didn’t like it.
