Commision Junction States: “There are NO Plans to Remove Support for HTML Links”

Appropriately, Scott Jangro broke the story. When publishers log into the CJ interface, it now says:

On August 30, 2006 publishers will notice changes in getting links in the CJ Account Manager. This change will make it easier for publishers to choose either HTML or JavaScript links. To reiterate there are no plans to remove support for HTML links. Emphasis added

However, advertisers will have the option to designate a link as JavaScript-only (with the exception of keyword links), if they deem it necessary. Commission Junction encourages its advertisers to support both HTML and JavaScript link formats, to meet the varied needs of publishers.

There is some good news to end the week on. I think many people on both the advertiser and publisher side just breathed a sigh of relief.

The rewards are enormous when you finally get through to a child (CJ) that is a tad slow.

I think leaving the option to publishers is a positive develoment.

Javascript links can be useful in some cases and even provide a greater benefit than html links.

It does not make them work for everything though which was proven time and again during the LMI debate.

Merchants should look at some fancier examples of Linkshares DRM (Dynamic Rich Media). Interesting stuff. I don't know how much flexibility the advertiser has for the JS Links.
