And the bagpiper played

As I look back on AffiliateSummit 2004, one image remains in my head, and I can’t quite put my finger on why.

As the Carnival Victory backed away from a fogged in port in Nova Scotia, A single bagpiper came out and played. It drew me to the balcony – and I wasn’t alone. When the player took a break… those listening showed their appreciation with well deserved applause.

I think that one bagpiper likely left a high value memory experience for hundreds of folks on the cruise. It took 10 minutes. One person.

I assumed that the Tourism bureau paid for the bagpiper…. Now I’m trying to figure out how we as affiliate marketers can give that little bit extra to make that emotional connection to our sites.

    Great point Tim. Everyone needs to attempt to make a deeper connection with our customers.

    One of the best ways to do this is with relationship branding techniques. The hardest part for most companies is that they are afraid to "open up" and let their customers see them as they are, so they never build a personal connection except for the website full of products they put out there.

    That's why I'm glad to see Revenews moving to this blogging format. With each post I read from various authors, I'm experiencing a bond with the brand. The photos help too!
