Affiliate Marketing Pile Up

The Great Affiliate Road Rally was perhaps the most fun I’ve ever had at an official conference event. I’m guessing the road rally will be a little more put together at the Affiliate Summit East in Boston, but the amateur feel of this one added to the unexpected glee of adults playing with toys (even with a big reward).

You’ve got to watch the pileup that happens after the “green flag.” Some might even call it a great analogy for affiliate marketing in general :)

Great Affiliate Road Rally at Affiliate Summit: “The Great Affiliate Road Rally, a charity fundraiser for the Starlight Starbright Children’s Foundation, took place February 26, 2008 at Affiliate Summit. Affspy won the race and a booth at Affiliate Summit 2008 East in Boston.”

I was just examining the replay to figure out how the winner got past the pile-up.

He started three or four cars back – I figured he must have had the pole position.

But it looked like he anticipated an opening pile up, because he hesitated and then sprinted around it.

Interestingly, the second car to cross the finish line was next to the first one at the start.

Both in the middle of the pack – any racing theories there, Mr. Harrelson?

Love it… maybe have the cars on a stage where they can be pushed off?

I noticed the AffSpy car laying back… that was a smart move. If you watch superspeedway races at Daytona or Talladega, you’ll always notice a group of 5 or 6 cars that fall back out of the lead pack and wait for “The Big One” to wipe out half the field. That’s basically what happened here.

Next time we should probably start them in a straight line? Or not… I enjoyed the carnage.

As far as next time, what do you think of a demolition derby where we provide the cars?

Maybe restrict it to 10 spots or whatever.

Last one running gets the prize.
