Scratchback Review / Affiliate Aim List Ads?

November 1st, 2007 by Adam Viener

I started playing around with Jim’s new Scratchback widget beta and I am impressed. I do have a few suggestions though. First my experience.

After viewing the widget, I decided I would test it out on my affaimlist.com and wiseaff.com sites.

When I started adding the widget for the AIMList, I thought people might like image ads, but when I looked at the process of creating / buying them, I thought the ad size was a non-standard size, I wasn’t really sure if people would create that small of an image ad for a site.

Scratchback Suggestion #1: Use a more standard image size for ads. Maybe even let us select the image size.

I decided to go with text ads to start.

On Wiseaff, I ran into a size problem. 200 width is usually ok, but I would have prefereed to put the widget on the right hand column, and for that I would have needed a more narrow size.

Scratchback Suggestion #2: Have some more witdh choices for the ads to fit in more blog spots.

I am sure these types of enhancements are on the way, if not already in the works, it’s a cool program! Congrats Jim!

One last suggestion before i go…

Scratchback Suggestion #3: Allow a “bid for position” option where people can outbid each other for the top spots. So I might start at $1, but the last guy get’s bumped off, and when someone is outbid, they would have the opportunity to bid more to keep the position.

I hope you get bought for lots of money!

Adam, thanks for the kind review. Glad you like it.

#1 – Yeah, I’m working on some new ideas for the image portion. Maybe something even more creative or standard sizes. I have found personally that 88×31’s are kinda useless, you agree? The next standard size up is pretty big.

#2 – Smaller widths is in the works. Also working on an “in post” version.

#3 – That is a great idea that someone else brought up to me. Probably pretty far off in version 2.0, but a great idea.

Thanks again!

There’s a similar widget available from http://www.BringaBuddy.net which has a width of 160px and fits in most sidebars.

Check it out…
